Affordable House Prototype
Minneapolis, MNClient: Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation
Recognizing that some of the custom homes we were currently designing had embraced fundamental strategies of cost efficiency, as well as dealing with smaller than typical lots, we approach a non-profit builder of affordable single-family homes to design a new house prototype to be built repetitively. The client coincidently had been asked by several neighborhood groups to provide some new alternatives to their standard set of home designs.
A series of design strategies were presented exploring more contemporary planning strategies that would address the neighborhood groups’ concerns. A design was selected and built over the winter of 2006/2007 in North Minneapolis with the intention to construct additional pre-planned variations of the design in other locations.
