Custom Fireplace
Minneapolis, MNThe project is located in a new condominium in a restored 1870’s flour mill in downtown Minneapolis. The home is a large single story loft with 12 foot ceilings and exposed concrete floors, ceilings and columns. The new fireplace needed to compliment the existing brick wall without covering it up, and without reducing the open loft feel of the home. At the same time it created an opportunity to define the dining and living rooms.
The design provides two primary intersecting bars. One located between dining and living that serves as the fireplace and hearth. The second runs along the wall for seating and display. The hearth is capped by a cast bronze top - itself a display piece that ages over time and reflects the light of the day and the light of the fire. The fire itself is simply a flame surrounded by a full height glass flue - capturing and reflecting light, and allowing full view through.
